WSB Wins 2nd Place in Leoti 'Trunk or Treat' Contest

Our Leoti team recently participated in the community's annual Trick or Treat event, providing Halloween treats to local children. Their decorating efforts also resulted in a 2nd place win in the Best Decorated Trunk contest.

Garden City Team Participates in Boo At The Zoo
Our talented employees created a Creepy Carnival experience at this year's Boo at the Zoo in Garden City. 
We had so much fun interacting with local children and families, and celebrating this exciting time of year together. And of course, a big shout-out to Friends of Lee Richardson Zoo for putting together such a fantastic night for the community—can’t wait for next year!

Garden City Team Presents at Spanish First-Time Homebuyers Class
Garden City Underwriter Marlene Chairez recently presented at Crockett & Co Real Estate's first-time homebuyers class for Spanish speakers. The class was free and open to the public. Nearly 25 individuals attended.

Ag Future Scholarship Recipients Announced
Together with American Implement, we are pleased to announce the winners of the 2024 Ag Future Scholarship Program.

The Ag Future Scholarship Program provides a total of 10, $1,000 scholarships to high school seniors and current college students who intend to pursue an Ag-related program or degree at a university, community college or technical school.

Applicants from 23 western Kansas counties applied, and the following students were chosen as recipients:
Brennan Aldridge, Weskan High School; Baylor Dayoe, Ulysses High School; Lesly Dominguez, Goodland Junior/Senior High School; Britton Grigsby, Ashland High School; Matthew Hendricks, Cheylin High School; Braden Hoskinson, Satanta High School; Brady Ketzner, Cheylin High School; Kaylen Langhofer, Southwestern Heights High School; Kelsey Selensky, Quinter High School; and Madison Seyb, Stanton County Junior/Senior High School.

To qualify for the scholarship, students were required to have a minimum of a 3.0 grade point average, reside in a qualifying western Kansas or eastern Colorado county, and plan to pursue an Ag-related program. Additional factors such as grades, letters of recommendation, community involvement and participation in extracurricular activities were also considered.

WSB announces 2024 Coin Challenge Results
We recently wrapped up the 2024 'Bring in the Dough' Coin Challenge, which resulted in over $5,000 for participating schools. Each school received a check for the full amount of donations collected, plus donations from WSB for the winning schools in each area. Thank you to all the teachers, administrators, support staff, students, and parents for your enthusiastic participation.

Western State Bank was proud to sponsor the People's Choice award at this year's Finney County Youth Entrepreneurship Challenge. Vice President and Loan Officer David Mongeau also served as a judge for the competition.

Dodge City Loan Officer Joins Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors
Western State Bank Vice President & Commercial Loan Officer Brad Herter was recently selected to join the Dodge City Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. Herter was chosen largely due to his many contributions to the betterment of the community, and to his knowledge in business, finance and agriculture.

WSB Costume Contest Raises Money For Local Organizations
Western State Bank employees competed in their annual Costumes for a Cause costume contest on Halloween. Employees in Garden City, Colby, Goodland, St. Francis, and Leoti donned their most creative costumes and allowed the public to vote via Facebook. The winning teams received a chance to donate to a local nonprofit organization of their choice.  Our Goodland banking center won the banking center category, and the Underwriting/Loan Servicing team won the Garden City department contest. The Goodland FFA and Spirit of the Plains CASA each received a donation.

'Aliens' Land At Garden City's Annual Boo at the Zoo Event
Garden City employees created an out-of-this world alien-themed treat station at Lee Richardson Zoo's annual Boo at the Zoo event. They enjoyed handing out treats and interacting with thousands of local children and families.
